San Luis Natural Farm

It is a family project, dedicated to the production of vegetables, coffee, pastures and agrotourism. It has a total of 13 hectares, of which 6.5 hectares are in production and the rest are for natural conservation.

Eliécer and María Eugenia are the head of the family, they started the project based on organic agriculture since 1997. They began to produce without agrochemicals, concerned about the health of the family, the environment and the consumers.

His six children: Sonia, Marcela, Alonso, Juan Pablo, Luisa and Felicia, have been part of the history and construction of this small company. They have complemented it with new technologies, for example, the use of web platforms for the marketing of products and information for visitors to the project. In addition, they actively collaborate in different areas, administratively and providing labor for the farm.

This is how the farm also generates opportunity for the community of San Luis, through the employment of 3 direct full-time people and temporary contracts with other people. In addition, it attracts foreign and national people to the farm, thus generating tourist influx for an area commonly known only for its coffee plantations. The farm is certified under the participatory GPO modality with the Las Brumas group. We also have a 4-star award in the agricultural blue flag.

As a Costa Rican peasant family, our desire is to preserve the farm, in a productive way and also respecting nature, thus guaranteeing fertile soils, clean water, pure air and healthy food for the following generations.

Su Ajo

My name is Susana, the creator of Su_Ajo (Your_Garlic), a natural medicine for our bodies. Made with local garlic and free from pesticides that I source from farmers in the area near where I live (Escazú). They are the true heroes thanks to their work, love for the land, and their great labor.

I am a very dreamy and joyful person. I love my family, who are my greatest support. Everything I do, I try to do with much love, as if it were for myself, doing what I would like to receive and have done for me. For me, it is important to offer a product that is a great ally in the kitchen, that contributes to health benefits, that is practical, and saves us time.

I started by making garlic paste to prepare a pizza and enjoy it with my family, during the lockdown that affected us all so much. One day, I offered garlic paste to some friends and they loved it. That's how it started to become known, by word of mouth.

Doing this artisanal process, which also provided me with extra income, relaxes me a lot and my house always smells very good.

Thanks to those who support us and make this product part of their daily consumption, embracing local, healthy, and artisanal products.

Pasture-Raised Field Chickens

We are a family-owned company dedicated since 2015 to the breeding, production, and distribution of pasture-raised chickens. The free-range environment in which the birds are raised allows for lower stress levels, resulting in healthy meat with higher levels of vitamins and minerals.

Our goal is to provide consumers with a high-quality, healthy alternative in food, producing chicken meat through a more traditional poultry farming approach, distinct from the industrialized production that predominates in today's market.

Our chicks have daily access to yards where they can walk, stretch, and feed on fresh grass, seed sprouts, fruits, grains, and insects. Chlorophyll stimulates the birds' immune system, preventing them from getting sick and thereby reducing the need for chemicals and antibiotics.

Thank you for supporting agroecological production; it's beneficial for everyone—environment, society, and economy!

Products Yamashita

Yamashita emerged in 2012, based in Vázquez de Coronado. It is a productive project led by a family team, focused on manufacturing food products made with pesticide-free ingredients and processed using fermentation techniques, which draw from the historical culinary traditions of cultures like Japan. We produce beverages (Kefir), preserves (Kimchi and Sauerkraut), tea, and miso (a traditional Japanese seasoning).

We offer sustainable, natural products and seasonal sales of heirloom seeds. Additionally, we operate an urban organic garden where we grow fresh ingredients such as soybeans, spices, burdock, daikon (Japanese radish), garlic, kale, maize, among others, for further processing.

Throughout human history and across various cultures, fermented foods have always played a role in diets. These foods support the maintenance of a diverse and balanced microbiota (beneficial microorganisms) in the digestive tract, crucial for human health.

However, in recent decades, industrialization in food production, with its methods often relying on chemical preservation among other techniques, has greatly reduced access to fermented foods containing live cultures (probiotics).

For these reasons, Yamashita is committed to learning from tradition and innovating in the production of organic fermented foods, offering Costa Rican consumers healthy products that:

  • Support organic and sustainable production (thereby preserving natural environments and human health).

  • Positively complement people's diets.

  • Enrich the culinary culture of the country.

We hope you thoroughly enjoy Enraizadas products 🙂

Chambray Honey

We are the Molina Rodríguez family from San Ramón. Since 2004, we have been beekeepers, caring for and working with bees to produce and offer pure honey while also caring for the environment.

Did you know that bee honey is one of the few foods that never spoils? That's why pure honey crystallizes—a characteristic that has been misunderstood by many and wrongly seen as something negative.

We love what we do, and we respect the resources that life has lent us while we are passing through this beautiful earth that saw us born.

Have you tried our honey yet? It tastes just like pure honeycomb!

Eco Cedrela

We are a family-run enterprise led by women, located in Los Angeles de Atenas. Over 4.3 hectares are dedicated to fruit production, focusing on mangoes and citrus fruits. Mango cultivation is our primary activity, with trees averaging about 43 years old, and we manage over 4 varieties.

Among citrus fruits, Valencia oranges are predominant, and we also have trees producing tangerines, tangerine lemons, and Mesino lemons. In the past, our mango and citrus sections were outsourced and conventionally managed. However, unanimously, we decided to prioritize sustainability and ceased using agrochemicals since October 2019. In 2020, we chose the path of agroecology and in 2021 initiated the process to transition to organic agriculture, formally registering with the SFE.

We are classified as small to medium agricultural producers. We harvest for family consumption and have a small surplus of fruits like cocoa, water apples, starfruit, soursop, cashew, guava, among many others, which we began cultivating in a vegetable garden in 2022.

Currently (2023), our farm is in its second year of transition. We are actively learning and implementing practices to soon obtain TICO-BPA certification. Additionally, we have earned 5 stars in the BAE Program for producing fruit free of agrochemicals.

We take pride in being part of the Enraizadas community and seek to connect with producers who share similar goals. Our farm is open to visitors anytime you'd like to come by.
